West Bengal Government has announced credit card scheme new WB 2022 student application for college students. This West Bengal student credit card scheme will allow students to get a concessional loan up to Rs. 10 lakh to go to university. Under this scheme, a person will be eligible for up to 40 years and a student will have 15 years to repay their loan after finding a job.

What is West Bengal Student Credit Card Plan 2022

To empower West Bengal youth, a new scheme called Yojana Student Credit Card is being rolled out. Under this scheme, all eligible students will be issued a student credit card with a credit limit of up to Rs. 10 lakh with 4% interest. The WB Student Credit Card Program is part of the "Arthik Shujog, Shobol Jubo" initiative.

The Student Credit Card Program is designed to assist students who wish to pursue high school, high school, college, and graduate education. These include professional qualifications and other equivalent courses in any school, madrasa school, college, university or other affiliated institutes in India and abroad. Students enrolled in various training institutions can also use a loan to take competitive exams such as engineering, medical, law and civil service exams.

Through the student credit card, undergraduate students - undergraduates and graduate students, will be eligible to receive a credit up to ₹10 Lakh with a 4% subsidy rate. Unlike a one-time loan, a student credit card will conveniently provide on-demand student funds, benefiting over 1.5 students over the next 5 years.

CM Mamata Banerjee heads WB State Government. an estimated 1.5 beneficiaries will be included in the “West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme”. The SCC program promises students a credit card with a credit limit of up to Rs 10,00,000 for further study. The Yojana West Bengal Student Credit Card was promised by Minister Mamata Banerjee ahead of the recent Parliamentary elections.

Top government officials held a meeting recently to work out the modalities of the dole. The work to implement the West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme will start soon. The first thing govt. have to do is to register the beneficiaries of the West Bengal SCC Scheme. It has been assessed that the scheme will have a total of 1.5 crore beneficiaries.

Government of West Bengal has introduced the Student Credit Card Scheme for the students of West Bengal to enable them to pursue education without having any financial constraints. This scheme is designed to support the students to pursue secondary, higher secondary, madrasah, undergraduate and post graduate studies including professional degree and other equivalent courses in any School, Madrasah, College, University and other affiliated institutes within and outside India.


Students are studying at different training institutions to compete for different competitive exams like Engineering, Medicine, Law, IAS, IPS, WBCS etc. can also avail of a loan under this program. A student in West Bengal can get a loan upto 10 lakhs @ 4%/year with simple interest from the State Cooperative Bank and its affiliated Central Cooperative Banks and Central Cooperative Bank. district central government and Public/Private Sector Banks. Borrowers will receive 1% interest reduction if paying interest in full during the study period.

The upper limit for interested students is maintained at 40 (forty) years of age at the time of loan application. The repayment period will be fifteen (15) years for any loan issued under this credit card, including the repayment/holiday term. Eligibility of West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme

Here is the complete eligibility criteria to become eligible for West Bengal Student Credit Card Scheme:-

  • Applicant must have spent 10 years in West Bengal state.
  • Loans would be eligible for undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and post-doctoral study in India or abroad.
  • One person is eligible for the scheme till 40 years of age.
  • Fifteen years will be given to a student to repay the loan after getting a job.

Students can avail soft loans from State Cooperative Bank, its affiliated Central Cooperative Banks, District Central Cooperative Banks and public/ private sector banks.

Implementation of the WB Student Credit Card Scheme

The financial situation does not permit the West Bengal state government. to make West Bengal's SCC plan popular. World Bank State Government. It is simply not possible to bring all students in the state on a Yojana student credit card as this would increase the financial burden. To ensure smooth implementation of West Bengal student credit card scheme, the government has planned to introduce eligibility criteria so that students can avail loans with favorable terms.

State governments may be forced to cut allocations by some departments to raise money for the World Bank's student credit card program. Room allowance cannot be drastically reduced. Therefore, the state is also seeking funding for the program from other sources.

West Bengal SCC Program Beneficiary Database

World Bank Government. already has a database of several eligible beneficiaries that can be easily used to start an SCC plan. For example, the state has detailed data on government students. schools and colleges. These beneficiaries can be integrated immediately into the direct benefit transfer program. For the remaining families, the government can consult.

The WB Student Credit Card Program will certainly promote education as a large portion of the funds allocated will go into the beneficiaries' bank accounts every year.

Expenses to be Covered in WB Student Credit Card Scheme

  • Fees to be paid to school / madrasa / college / university / professional institutes and competitive coaching institutes or for entrance examinations.
  • Fees for accommodation in a hostel or as paying guest.
  • Any deposit to be paid to the institution, library and laboratory.
  • Cost of buying books, digital device and equipment.
  • Other course-related expenses such as study tours, project work, thesis submission.

The WB government has asked authorities of schools, colleges and universities to organise camps every Monday to promote the credit card scheme. The state govt. has also directed the education department to send a report on the number of students coming to these facilities.

According to reports, over 1,20,000 applications have been submitted under the programme till 14 December 2021. Out of these, around 50,000 have been sent to banks for approval. Banks have so far accepted around 6,000 applications. Some applications were rejected and returned to the district administrations. Chief secretary H K Dwivedi has already directed officials to set up a committee in each district to deal with the issue of loan denial.

West Bengal govt. has announced a dedicated helpline number and an e-mail id, to ensure that those seeking loans under the Student Credit Card scheme are not inconvenienced. Officials of the concerned department hold regular meetings to facilitate eligible student applicants in getting collateral security free loans up to Rs 10 lakh.
