In the year following its introduction, this percentage increased to 74%, showcasing the program's impact.

The E-Shram portal was inaugurated on August 26, 2017, with the aim of establishing a comprehensive nationwide database for unorganized employees, spanning sectors such as construction, agriculture, and various other services. The primary goal was to extend social security benefits and other advantages to these workers, including migrants, gig economy participants, platform workers, street vendors, and domestic workers.

For the upcoming five years, the portal has been allocated approximately Rs 704 crore in funding. During the initial phase of the process, each employee is issued an E-Shram Card bearing a unique 12-digit identification number. Notably, the government has integrated the E-Shram portal with the National Career Service (NCS) Portal, with plans to further connect it to two other platforms – Aseem, a directory of skilled workers, and Udyam, a portal catering to Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs), as per the Labor Ministry's initiatives.
