Haryana Solar Based Tubewell Scheme (Update As on 5 May 2018)

As of May 5, 2018, the Haryana Government is set to introduce a Solar-Based Tubewell Scheme for farmers. This program aims to connect 6 lakh tubewells with solar energy. The implementation of this solar-powered tubewell pump scheme is expected to empower farmers by enabling them to generate surplus electricity and earn additional income. The state government is allocating a power subsidy of Rs. 7000 crore to support the farmers. This new solar subsidy initiative is a significant stride towards achieving the goal of "Doubling the Farmer’s Income by 2022."

Captain Abhimanyu, the Finance Minister of Haryana, revealed this information during a press conference subsequent to the meeting with the 15th Finance Commission. The introduction of the solar-powered tubewell scheme is anticipated to contribute to reducing pollution levels within the state. This initiative, designed to promote solar energy, aims to ensure a reliable power supply, timely irrigation water, additional income for farmers, and a substantial reduction in pollution.

The government plans to roll out this solar power subsidy scheme in phases for efficient implementation. Detailed action plans regarding the provision of power subsidies to farmers and other scheme guidelines will be finalized soon.

Salient Features of Haryana Solar Based Tube Well Scheme

The Haryana state government is devising a solar-based tubewell scheme aimed at enhancing the well-being of farmers. Tubewells play a vital role in agriculture by providing essential irrigation. By granting power subsidies to farmers, the initiative intends to incentivize the installation of solar panels for tubewells. The key features and highlights of this solar subsidy scheme are outlined as follows:

Approximately six lakh tubewells across the state will be connected with solar energy.
Farmers will have the flexibility to use solar energy according to their needs and even sell any excess power they generate.
This new solar-powered tubewell scheme is anticipated to assist farmers in generating additional income to improve their living standards.
The primary goal of the solar-powered tubewell pump scheme is to transform farmers into producers rather than mere consumers.
The Haryana government is set to allocate a power subsidy of Rs. 7000 crore to ensure the effective implementation of this scheme.
Following discussions with the 15th Finance Commission, the government aims to swiftly implement this solar subsidy scheme.
The mounting pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR) is a significant concern for the government. Factors such as the burning of crop residue in agricultural fields, inadequate solid waste management, and air pollution contribute to this pressing issue. Therefore, the government is consistently working towards reducing pollution levels.
